The Zoom R12 MultiTrak is a portable digital multitrack recorder built for musicians who want to write, record, edit, and perform wherever they make music. With up to 8 tracks of playback, a 2.4-inch full-color touchscreen, two XLR/TRS combo inputs, built-in effects, drum loops, a synthesizer, and USB-C audio interface functionality, the R12 gives songwriters, performers, and producers a compact workstation for developing complete musical ideas without being tied to a traditional studio.
Build Complete Multitrack Arrangements
The R12 supports up to eight tracks of simultaneous playback, giving you room to build layered arrangements from individual recordings, loops, and other parts. Two tracks can be recorded simultaneously, making it easy to capture vocals, guitars, keyboards, microphones, and other sources while building your project track by track.
Each track includes dedicated volume, pan, and 3-band EQ controls, giving you hands-on control over the balance and tone of your arrangement.
Touchscreen Editing
The 2.4-inch full-color touchscreen puts recording and editing controls directly at your fingertips. The graphical interface provides onboard editing capabilities with touch-and-swipe operation, making it easy to navigate projects and work through your recordings without relying on a computer.
Flexible Inputs for Musicians
Two XLR/TRS combo inputs accommodate microphones, instruments, and line-level sources, with +48V phantom power independently switchable for Inputs 1 and 2. Input 1 also provides Hi-Z support, making it suitable for directly connecting compatible guitars and other high-impedance instrument sources.
Built-in input dynamics provide compression, limiting, and gating, helping you control the dynamics of incoming sources while recording.
Built-In Effects and Guitar Processing
The R12 includes a flexible collection of onboard effects for shaping your recordings. Dedicated send effects provide 10 types of spatial effects, while patch-based effects support up to three effects simultaneously and can be used as insert or send effects.
Guitar Lab support expands the available processing options with compatible guitar effects, including distortion, modulation, spatial effects, and more.
Drums, Synth, and Metronome Built In
Develop arrangements without needing additional gear using the R12's built-in musical tools. 150 PCM drum loops provide rhythmic foundations, while the integrated FM synthesizer offers 18 sound types, 8-note polyphony, and a PCM drum kit.
A built-in metronome supports 3/4, 4/4, and 6/8 time signatures with tempos from 40 to 250 BPM. A chromatic and instrument-focused tuner also supports guitar, bass, and several alternate tuning configurations.
Sequence Playback for Live Performance
The R12 isn't limited to recording. Sequence Play allows you to use backing tracks in a live setting, making the R12 a practical tool for performers who need playback capabilities alongside their live instruments.
USB-C Audio Interface and Control Surface
Connect the R12 to a computer or compatible device through USB-C and use it as an audio interface. Depending on the connection mode, the R12 supports 2-in/2-out or 2-in/4-out USB audio operation at 44.1 kHz and 16/24-bit resolution.
The R12 also provides DAW control surface functionality, along with USB MIDI keyboard connectivity and Guitar Lab connection support, giving it a useful role in a larger computer-based production workflow.
