Zoom F8n Pro 8-Channel Field Recorder: Professional Production Audio Anywhere

The Zoom F8n Pro Multitrack Field Recorder is built for professional production crews who need extensive I/O, dependable synchronization, and high-quality multitrack recording in the field. With eight locking Neutrik XLR/TRS combo inputs, 32-bit float recording, ultra-low-noise preamps, precision timecode, dual SD card slots, and multiple output options, the F8n Pro is ready for film, television, documentary, live production, and demanding location-recording workflows.

32-Bit Float Recording and Professional Preamps

The F8n Pro combines 32-bit float recording technology with high-quality microphone preamps capable of up to 75dB of gain and an equivalent input noise specification of less than −127 dBu EIN. Record up to eight channels at 32-bit float, with sample rates reaching 192kHz, giving production teams the dynamic range and resolution needed for critical location audio.

Eight Flexible XLR/TRS Inputs

Eight discrete locking Neutrik XLR/TRS combo connectors accept microphones, wireless systems, and line-level sources. Inputs can operate with microphone or line-level signals and provide switchable +24V/+48V phantom power. Any input can also be used as a camera return, adding flexibility when integrating the F8n Pro into a larger production sound system.

Dual SD Card Recording

The F8n Pro features two SD/SDHC/SDXC card slots, supporting cards up to 1TB each. Recording to two cards simultaneously allows you to create an immediate backup or split recordings between media, providing additional flexibility for demanding production environments.

Precision Timecode for Professional Production

Integrated BNC timecode I/O provides accurate synchronization with other production equipment. The F8n Pro offers timecode precision of ±0.2 ppm, internal and external timecode modes, Jam Sync, and support for both drop-frame and non-drop-frame formats. The audio clock can also be synchronized to timecode for reliable multi-device workflows.

Advanced Monitoring and Field Control

A 2.4-inch full-color 320 × 240 LCD provides clear monitoring in the field, with a monochromatic display mode for different lighting conditions. Each input has a dedicated gain control and six-segment LED level meter, while illuminated transport controls provide quick access to recording and playback functions. A built-in slate microphone can be assigned to tracks for recording voice memos, and the unit can output a variable-frequency tone signal for production reference.

Flexible Outputs and Camera Integration

The F8n Pro provides four main output channels for integrating with external equipment. Two balanced TA3 Main Outs can feed mixers or processing devices, while the stereo 3.5mm Sub Out provides a convenient connection to a camera. Selectable +4 dBu output support makes it easier to integrate the recorder into professional signal chains.

Built for Mobile Production

The F8n Pro supports several power configurations, including eight AA batteries, an external 9–18V DC power supply through its Hirose connector, or a 12V AC adapter. With its compact enclosure and professional connectivity, the F8n Pro provides a practical centerpiece for mobile production sound rigs.

USB Audio Interface and Wireless Control

Connect the F8n Pro to a computer and use it as an 8-in/4-out USB audio interface with support for up to 32-bit float/96kHz operation. The recording interface mode can provide up to 10-in/4-out operation at compatible sample rates. With the optional Zoom F8 Control app, iOS and Android devices can provide wireless remote control along with file renaming and metadata entry.
