We Are Not Without Hope: A Community Unites for Bemidji's Storm Recovery

10th Jul 2025

In the wake of a severe storm system in June that brought damaging winds and flooding to Northern Minnesota, the Bemidji community has come together in a powerful display of local support. The Bemidji United Methodist Church (BUMC) is leading a large-scale relief effort, partnering with local businesses and non-profits to aid impacted families.

A Grassroots Response to Community Need

Under the leadership of Pastor Deborah Davis, BUMC has engaged nationally recognized A/V solutions provider NLFX Professional, the United Way of the Bemidji Area, and has received tremendous logistical support from Wintersteen Trucking. This coalition is managing and distributing essential materials provided by the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) to residents facing hardship.

A Message of Hope Amidst Devastation

Pastor Deborah Davis shared her overwhelming gratitude for the outpouring of support. "I’ve been overwhelmed with gratefulness for those who have come to help. We didn’t know them; they didn’t know us. They simply came because they heard we needed help... they just came! And that’s made all the difference," she said. "We are a community that’s hurting, surrounded by GIANT broken trees and GIANT devastation, but we suddenly found we were also surrounded by GIANTS of love and support. We have a long way to go yet, but WE ARE NOT WITHOUT HOPE."

The Power of Partnership

The partnership showcases a grassroots response, combining the leadership of faith-based groups with the operational strength of local businesses to address the community's needs effectively.

"What we’ve seen in the wake of this disaster is the true spirit of our community: neighbors stepping up without hesitation to help one another," said Denae Alamano, Executive Director of the United Way of the Bemidji Area. "From volunteering and donating, the Bemidji community has shown what it means to Live United."

"When Pastor Davis and the church reached out, we knew we had to help," added Ben Stowe, President of NLFX Professional, a company with deep roots in the Bemidji community. "We are proud to lend our resources and team to support this vital, church-led community effort."

Together, these organizations are working to make a difference - one neighbor at a time.
